Concordia College hosted a community-wide discussion of vocation during "Faith and Public Life: Celebrating Vocation in Action," the 2006 Faith, Reason and World Affairs Symposium Sept. 10-12 on campus.

Featured speakers, including the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS, covered a wide range of vocation-related issues, such as standing up for what you believe in, putting personal talents to use to serve those in need, uniting with others for a common good and the importance of asking ourselves the tough questions.

The three-day event, funded in part by the Lilly Endowment Fund for Theological Education, encouraged participants to examine the relationship between the inner life of the mind and spirit and the outer life of service. Through plenary sessions featuring six speakers, panel discussions, small group sessions on more than 20 different topics, an art exhibition and reception, and musical performances, audience members explored what it means to celebrate vocation in action and to be called to serve others.
