Unique to Concordia is the extent that students are in volved in
college committees, serving in advisory roles and as full-voting members.
The following committees function to serve the interests of students
and all have administrative, faculty and student repre sentation.
For more information about a committee, contact the Student Association
offices. Academic Advisement Committee plans
and monitors academic advisement, including career-related advisement;
recruits, encourages and supports students pursuing special awards/scholarships
and/or graduate study. Academic Procedures and Policies
Committee develops and monitors policies for the following:
admission and retention of students, student progress in academic
courses, awarding grades, academic integrity, criteria for graduation
and academically related student activities. Budget
Planning Committee makes recommendations and evaluates the
college budget, including tuition and fees. Campus
Health Promotion Committee addresses issues related to critical
areas of health and wellness through data collection, educational
programming and policy recommendations. College Conduct
Board hears cases involving the most serious violations of
college policies or civil law, decides whe ther the person(s) charged
is (are) responsible or not responsible, and determines appropriate
sanctions if found responsible. College Planning
Committee plans and monitors the Blueprint and Financial
Blueprint planning processes and periodically reviews the implementation
of their recommendations. Community Relations Committee
promotes a mutually supportive community through consideration of
issues affecting the community at large, such as physical and mental
health, interpersonal relationships, cultural and gender diversity
and work-oriented stress; plans and encourages programming to maintain
a sense of community within the college. Curriculum
Coordinating Committee oversees the curriculum, reviews curriculum
assessment data, considers trends in undergraduate curriculum, makes
recommendations for improving the quality of the curriculum and participates
in planning for the curriculum. Subcommittees:
Curriculum: Admits new courses to the curriculum.
Core: Admits new Core courses to the Core. Assessment:
Provides planning, evaluation and oversight of academic assessment.
Curriculum Resources Committee monitors and
makes recommendations on the quality and accessibility of resources
that support the delivery of curriculum and faculty scholarly activity.
Subcommittee: Technology Planning Committee:
plans for the technology needs of the college. Cultural
Events Committee promotes intellectual stimulation and engagement
for the college community outside of the classroom and establishes
the schedule of college cultural events. Dining Services
Committee hears complaints against and reviews the policies
of Concordia Dining Services. Equal Opportunity Committee
advises college personnel about employment and personnel policies
and hears complaints related to discrimination in employment.
Faculty Senate, including its four voting student
members, proposes and legislates various academic and faculty policies
such as academic regulations, curriculum and grading. First-Year
Coordinating Committee identifies and recommends implementation
of new initiatives, programs and strategies to enhance the first-year
experience; advocates for a holistic and comprehensive first-year
experience; collaborates with other committees and departments working
on areas affecting the first-year experience. Graduate
Programs Committee admits graduate courses into the curriculum;
recommends new graduate programs to the Faculty Senate; recommends
policies, procedures, course and curriculum changes to the
Curriculum Coordinating Committee; monitors the
scope, direction and integrity of graduate programming.
Library Committee hears student concerns on library policy
and acts as an advisory board for the library administration.
Off-Campus Programs Committee approves credit-bearing,
off-campus programs. Establishes guidelines and sets standards for
these programs. Acts as a liaison with departments and programs to
ensure accountability, liability and fiscal viability of these programs.
Special Awards Committee develops opportunities
for recognition of faculty and students and coordinates the processes
for selecting faculty and students for recognition and awards.
Student Affairs Committee interprets and enforces
the Student Rights and Responsibilities document; serves as the advis
ory board for campus publications; and recommends additions or changes
in student life policies. Student Appeal Board
accepts appeals from the Student Responsibility Board in cases that
involve infractions of social regulations and academic regulations,
and from the Student Affairs Committee in cases that involve violations
of the Student Rights and Responsibilities document. Student
Responsibility Board hears cases that involve violations
of college social policies or civil law and the Academic Responsibility
Code, decides whe ther the person(s) charged is (are) responsible
or not responsible, and determines appropriate sanctions if found
responsible. International Education Committee
is composed of people with experience in international education who
help develop and enhance studyabroad experiences for students and
faculty.
In addition to these committees, students are asked to serve on many
ad hoc committees, subcommittees, task forces, search committees and
faculty evaluation teams so that they may make significant contributions
to the workings of Con cor dia College. If you have any questions
