Student Conduct Sanction Guidelines
Listed below are sanction guidelines for violation(s) of college policy (which include violations of civil/criminal law, since violation of the law on or off campus constitutes a violation of college policy). This list of violations and sanction guidelines should not be considered all-inclusive. Furthermore, the college reserves the right to depart from the stated minimum or maximum guidelines when there is a compelling reason to do so. Any violation not listed should involve a range of sanctions consistent with the category that most closely reflects its severity.
General Provisions
1) The sanction recommendations listed below are intended to describe the minimum and maximum guidelines for a single violation.
2) College staff and conduct board should keep in mind a "repeater clause" for any violation. If a student has prior violations, sanctions should be revised accordingly.
3) The sanctions of restitution and/or restraints may be included for appropriate violations.
4) Full or partial suspension of sanctions can only be recommended by authorized college staff and are subject to final approval by the dean of student life.
5) Education, assessment/evaluation, counseling/treatment may be required for any violation.
6) Co-curricular involvement and/or employment may be restricted during any period of disciplinary probation.
7) Any violation that occurs while a student is on disciplinary probation may result in suspension or expulsion from the college.
8) Suspension may be immediate or deferred. However, if deferred, it will be invoked no later than the end of the current semester or session.
9) Although not compelled by statute, the college regularly reports felony level violations to law enforcement officials, and reserves the right to refer for prosecution where appropriate
other breaches of civil or criminal law.
Category l Violations
Murder, Non-Negligent Manslaughter, Negligent Manslaughter
Maximum Sanction - expulsion from the college
Minimum Sanction - suspension from the college
Category 2 Violations
Aggravated Assault, Robbery, Rape, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Terroristic Threats and Motor Vehicle Theft
Maximum Sanction - expulsion from the college
Minimum Sanction - suspension for a period not less than one year, and appropriate
mental health referral
Category 3 Violations
Assault, Burglary, Sexual Assault, Indecent Liberties, Distribution of Controlled Substances (Illegal Drugs), Arson and Bias-Related Violence.
Maximum Sanction - expulsion from the college
Level 2 Sanction - suspension from the college and appropriate mental health referral
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $250, disciplinary probation for a period not less
than one year and appropriate mental health referral
Category 4 Violations
Theft, Possession of Stolen Property, Issuing Worthless Checks and Damage to Property:
1st Degree - In complaints where property involved is valued at more than $500.
Maximum Sanction - restitution and suspension or expulsion from the colleg
Level 2 Sanction - restitution and suspension from the college
Minimum Sanction - restitution, monetary fine of $150, and disciplinary probation for one year
2nd Degree - In complaints where property involved is valued at $250 - $499
Maximum Sanction - restitution and suspension or expulsion from the college
Level 2 Sanction - restitution, monetary fine of $150 and disciplinary probation for one year
Minimum Sanction - restitution, a monetary fine of $100 and disciplinary probation for one semester
3rd Degree - In complaints where property involved is valued at less than $250
Maximum Sanction - restitution and suspension from the college
Level 2 Sanction - restitution, monetary fine of $100 and disciplinary probation for one year
Minimum Sanction - restitution, monetary fine of $50 and disciplinary probation for one semester
Threatening a Member of the Campus Community
Maximum Sanction - suspension or expulsion from the college and appropriate mental health referral
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $200, disciplinary probation for one year and appropriate mental health referral
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $150, disciplinary probation for one year and appropriate mental health referral
Possession of Controlled Substances (Illegal Drugs):
Maximum Sanction - suspension or expulsion from the college and appropriate mental health referral
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $200, disciplinary probation for one year and appropriate mental health referral
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $150, disciplinary probation for one year and appropriate mental health referral
Hazing:
Maximum Sanction - suspension or expulsion from the college
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $150 and disciplinary probation for one year
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $100 and disciplinary probation for a one semester
Sexual or Bias Related Harassment:
Maximum Sanction - suspension or expulsion from the college
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $150 and disciplinary probation for one year
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $100 and disciplinary probation for a one semester
Tampering with Fire Equipment:
Maximum Sanction - suspension or expulsion from the college
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $150 and disciplinary probation for one year
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $100 and disciplinary probation for one semester
Violation of Weapons Policy:
Maximum Sanction - suspension or expulsion from the college
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $150 and disciplinary probation for one year
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $100 and disciplinary probation for one semester
Tampering with U.S. and/or Campus Mail:
Maximum Sanction - suspension or expulsion from the college
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $150 and disciplinary probation for one year

Breaking and Entering:
Maximum Sanction - suspension or expulsion from the college
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $150 and disciplinary probation for one year

Hosting a party w/aclohol & Minors Consuming
Maximum Sanction - suspension from the college for one year parental notification
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $750 and resident & disciplinary probation for one year parental notification
Minimum Sanction monetary fine of $500 and resident & disciplinary probation for one semester parental notification
Hosting a Party & Selling Alcohol
Maximum Sanction - suspension from the college for one year parental notification
Level 2 Sanction - suspension from the college for one semester parental notification
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $750 and resident & disciplinary probation for one year parental notification
Category 5 Violations
Alcohol Violation:
Maximum Sanction - suspension from the college for one semester and referral for assessment/treatment parental notification
Level 3 Sanction - monetary fine of $200, disciplinary probation for one year and referral for assessment/treatment parental notification
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $150 and referral for assessment/treatment parental notification
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $100 and possible referral for assessment/treatment possible parental notification
Noise/Party Ordinance Violation
Maximum Sanction - suspension from the college for one semester parental notification
Level 3 Sanction - monetary fine of $250 and resident & disciplinary probation for one year parental notification
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $200 per resident parental notification
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $150 per resident
Failure to Comply with a College Official:
Maximum Sanction - suspension from the college
Level 3 Sanction - monetary fine of $100 and disciplinary probation for one semester
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $75
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $50
Disorder Conduct:
Maximum Sanction - suspension from the college
Level 3 Sanction - monetary fine of $100 and disciplinary probation for one semester
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $75
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $50
Giving False Information to a College Official/Altering College ID’s or Documents:
Maximum Sanction - revocation of admission or suspension from the college
Level 3 Sanction - monetary fine of $100 and disciplinary probation for one year
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $75
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $50
Vandalism or Damage to Property:
Maximum Sanction - restitution and suspension from the college
Level 3 Sanction - restitution + 50%, monetary fine of $100 and disciplinary probation for one year
Level 2 Sanction - restitution +50% and a monetary fine of $75
Minimum Sanction - restitution + 50% and a monetary fine of $50
Misuse of Emergency Equipment:
Maximum Sanction - suspension from the college
Level 3 Sanction - monetary fine of $100 and disciplinary probation for one semester
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $75
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $50
Unauthorized Entry of a College Facility and/or Unauthorized Use of a College Facility or Property:
Maximum Sanction - suspension from the college
Level 3 Sanction - monetary fine of $100 and disciplinary probation for one semester
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $75
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $50
Making Anonymous or Harassing Phone Calls:
Maximum Sanction - suspension from the college
Level 3 Sanction - monetary fine of $100 and disciplinary probation for one semester
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $75
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $50
Perjury, Contempt of Conduct Boards or Concealing Information:
Maximum Sanction - suspension from the college
Level 3 Sanction - monetary fine of $100 and disciplinary probation for one year
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $75
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $50
Tampering with Locks:
Maximum Sanction - restitution and suspension from the college
Level 3 Sanction - restitution, monetary fine of $100, and disciplinary probation for one semester
Level 2 Sanction - restitution and a monetary fine of $75

Careless Operation of a Motor Vehicle:
Maximum Sanction - restitution and suspension from the college
Level 3 Sanction - restitution, monetary fine of $100, and disciplinary probation for one semester
Level 2 Sanction - restitution and a monetary fine of $75
Minimum Sanction - restitution and a monetary fine of $50
Category 6 Violations
Visitation Violation:
Maximum Sanction - monetary fine of $100 and disciplinary probation for one semester
Level 3 Sanction - monetary fine of $75
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $50
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $25
Window Screen Removal:
Maximum Sanction - monetary fine of $100 disciplinary probation for one semester
Level 3 Sanction - monetary fine of $75

Noise Violation:
Maximum Sanction - monetary fine of $100 and disciplinary probation for one semester

Refrigerator Violation: Unit being used in conjunction with another policy violation (i.e. storing alcohol or other contraband)
Maximum Sanction - monetary fine of $100 (each roommate), disciplinary probation for one semester, confiscation of refrigerator, and loss of refrigeration privileges for the balance of
the academic year
Level 3 Sanction - monetary fine of $75 (each roommate), confiscation of refrigerator, and loss of refrigeration privileges for the balance of the academic year
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $50 (each roommate), confiscation of refrigerator, and loss of refrigeration privileges for the balance of the academic year
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $25 (each roommate), confiscation of refrigerator, and loss of refrigeration privileges for the balance of the academic year

Refrigerator Violation: Unit placed in closet or covered – Safety Risk
Maximum Sanction - monetary fine of $150 (each roommate), disciplinary probation for one semester, confiscation of refrigerator, and loss of refrigeration privileges for the balance

Level 3 Sanction - monetary fine of $125 (each roommate), confiscation of refrigerator, and loss of refrigeration privileges for the balance of the academic year
Level 2 Sanction - monetary fine of $100 (each roommate), confiscation of refrigerator, and loss of refrigeration privileges for the balance of the academic year
Minimum Sanction - monetary fine of $75 (each roommate), confiscation of refrigerator, and loss of refrigeration privileges for the balance of the academic year
Possession or Use of Firecrackers:
Maximum Sanction - monetary fine of $100 and disciplinary probation for one semester
Level 3 Sanction - monetary fine of $75

Violation of Other Residence Hall Handbook Policies:
