Discerning My Call

I came to Concordia to study biology and physical therapy. However, with the many opportunities for ministry available on campus and in the community, my passion for youth and family ministry grew. I know that is where God is calling me to be.
Now I'm studying sociology, with a minor in communication and I have completed courses in the church professions program. I feel this combination of classes will prepare me for studies at Luther Seminary and a career in youth and family ministry. I'm also developing valuable leadership and ministry skills through my involvement on campus - in residence life, LeadNow, band, campus ministry, intramural sports and painting the Christmas Concert mural - and off campus - as a confirmation small group leader and a Club Six leader at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
Concordia's church professions courses, especially, have made a huge impact on my life. After completing the first course, I knew God was calling me into ministry. My instructor, Kathy Hunstad, provided a learning environment where each student felt comfortable sharing and discussing with the group. The classes forced me to think deeply and to ask myself and others critical questions that will help us better understand ministry professions.
In fact, all of my courses at Concordia have helped me to grow and think about my future plans in a different light. Concordia has allowed me to pursue my studies while also keeping a focus on my faith.
