Connecting The Villages And Concordia
By Michael Simonson '08

I've always loved learning about cultures and languages, especially Spanish, so Concordia Languages Villages has been a perfect fit. I was a villager for two summers at El Lago Del Bosque at Oak Hills before working on staff at Oak Hills and Marine on St. Croix for three more summers. After enjoying my time as a villager and discovering there was a college connected with the programs I decided to attend Concordia to study Spanish.

As a Spanish and global studies major, with a minor in international business, I plan to someday work for an international non-profit organization where I can work closely with people around the world and travel. I'm gaining excellent experience through my classes at Concordia, along with my involvement in the Spanish club Circulo Hispano, Sigma Delta Pi and as a tutor for the Academic Enhancement Center. This summer I'm studying in Mexico City through Concordia's Mexico Summer Study Program. I will be participating in an internship at the Mexico City Chamber of Commerce as well.

My Language Villages connections hardly ended once I started college - in fact, I'm more involved than ever. For the past two academic years I've worked as a weekend programs counselor and currently I'm a public relations assistant at the Language Villages' Moorhead office. I've met some wonderful people from around the world and established great friendships. It's amazing being able to interact with so many unique people and learn about their cultures. I just love the Language Villages experience!
