"As one of North Dakota's 2005 Presidential Scholars I felt pressured to attend an Ivy League school, but I knew it wouldn't feel like home for me. I just cannot imagine a better fit for me than Concordia."

Finding The Right Fit
By Logan Richman '09

I entered Concordia as a political science major with my eyes on law school and government service - but my Religion 100 and Accounting 155 classes sparked my interest much more than I could have ever expected. I declared a double major in accounting and religion, with a joint minor in history and political science.

Dr. Shawn Carruth, religion associate professor, and Ron Twedt, accounting assistant professor, came to my aid when I grew concerned about majoring in seemingly unrelated fields. They pointed out that the key aspect of a liberal arts education is studying a wide array of topics and they agreed to serve as my academic advisors for my next three years. I look forward to building stronger relationships with them.

As I'm exploring a few career options - from law and public accounting to ministry or even farming - I'm getting involved in a variety of activities at Concordia. This past year I served as treasurer of the college's SADD Initiative chapter and as a student senate member. I also started my classes in the CREDO honors program and am looking forward to my semester in Crete as a junior - a highlight of the program. Next year, I'll be working in the Campus Pastors Office, along with serving as a Student Government Association co-commissioner of Academic Affairs, working on the college's honor code.
