Real World Experience

There's nothing quite like hands-on experience to help make a career decision and gain valuable knowledge at the same time. While at Concordia, I found that experience at MeritCare Health Systems, Fargo, as a public policy and external relations intern. As a philosophy and political science major, with minors in classical studies and business, I had my eye on law school and that's exactly where I'll be in the fall - the University of North Dakota School of Law.
While in college, I also spent the summer and early fall in two other healthcare related internships - one in leadership development and learning services at MeritCare and another at Innovis Health, Fargo, helping to create a nursing recruiting program. Both provided me opportunities to be creative, apply what I'd learned in the classroom and know I was making a difference.
In addition to internships, I've found many other ways to explore my interests and prepare for my future while at Concordia. I participated in Mock Trial, choir and even spent a semester in Crete as a part of the CREDO honors program. I was accepted into a month-long summer business program at Vanderbilt University and was very involved in Student Government Association as a political affairs commissioner.
My classes at Concordia have taught me the importance of teamwork, listening to one another and striving to make things better. I'd love to work on healthcare reform in the future and all of these skills will help me do just that. I want to be able to look back and see that healthcare was changed for the better.
