"Our message to prospective students is if you come here, we can get you to wherever you want to go."

Three's A Charm

One Goldwater Scholarship is quite an achievement - three consecutive honors is a whole other story.

And Concordia College-Moorhead alumni Dan Biebighauser '02, John Gregoire '04 and Dan Turner '04 know exactly what it's like. The three math and science students not only worked together on an extensive chemistry research project at Concordia, they were all awarded the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship.

While at Concordia, the students teamed up on molecular research with chemistry professor Darin Ulness (link to his Know page), ultimately leading to a half-million dollar grant from the National Science Foundation. Among other things, the grant funded a modern laser lab on campus to continue their research.

The scholars were also accepted to various academic and research projects around the world, including Gregoire's project at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Terre Haute, Ind., and semester in India, and Biebighauser's summer internship at the National Security Agency, Washington D.C. Now the three Concordia alumni are studying for their graduate degrees at top universities - Turner at MIT, Biebighauser at Vanderbilt University and Gregoire at Cornell University.

"Our message to prospective students is if you come here, we can get you to wherever you want to go," says Ulness.
