Grammatical Imitation

Write a new passage of ten sentences that imitate the grammatical patterns of your original. Your sentences should have some sort of logical thematic continuity and not be mere grammatical gibberish.

Some strategies:

~ Some writers like to begin with substitution: replace nouns and verbs with new ones that fit your own theme. Next go through and change prepositions, adjectives, and adverbs. This method copies the grammatical structures very closely, but the sense of the passage can be lost.

~ Other writers prefer to focus on the patterns and then write the new sentences from scratch. For example, you might notice that the original sentence begins with a participial phrase and uses a S - V - DO - Prep Phrase pattern, so you compose a corresponding sentence.

~ Keep in mind that your goal is to imitate the grammar, not the content.
