SENTENCE PATTERNS

  1. Print out a clean copy of your ten sentences. (If you haven’t revised irregularities in your citation, do so now!)

  2. Identify the "skeleton" of each clause and mark it as dependent/subordinate or independent.

  3. Label each sentence by its grammatical pattern: Simple, Complex, Compound, Compound-Complex.

  4. If you have a sentence that doesn’t fit one of these patterns (a deliberate fragment or a brief interjection), label it “Irregular.”

As always, if you have any questions, please ask.
