HBSQ RECORDINGS   APRIL IN FARGO - 2006 The latest release from the Hard-Bop Sax Quartet!  It's been 3 years in the making (we work slow - but it was worth it!).  Finally, a CD with newest member Matt Patnode (Sax prof. at North Dakota University in Fargo),  This CD is filled with original compositions and arrangements of some great jazz standards like: Blues Walk (Clifford Brown), Manteca (Dizzy), Blue Rondo ala Turk (Brubeck), A Nightengale sang in Berkeley Square, Petite Fleur (Sidney Bechet), Star Spangled Banner, and of course, April in Paris!   The originals tunes on this album are high energy and funky!  They include tunes by Paul and Russ like:  Thrash (tribute to heavy metal!), Hayle Mail (based on Gershwin's "I got rhythm"), Silent Site (light bossa nova), Root of all Evil (5/4 modal tune feature both altos blowing solos and a complicated sax soli section), and Fly to a Lantern (a rock tune Paul wrote, with a special guest drummer).  You can hear some of the CD below.
