I would encourage you to take notes during the film.
There is a fair amount of foreshadowing and symbolism in this film. Here are a couple things to watch for:
1. C.S. Lewis (Jack) periodically lectures to groups throughout
the film. He is almost always discussing the topic of suffering.
Why did the writer director include these re-occurring lectures?
What is the significance?
2. What does the "Golden Valley" symbolize? How is it developed
throughout the film?
3. Throughout the story we have a student (Whistler?) appear and
reappear. What is the significance of this character?
4. What lines do you hear repeated throughout the film?
Why are they repeated and how do you interpret them?
5. How does this film address suffering and the purpose of life?
What connections do you see with previous texts that we have looked at?
6. Compare the intellectual response to suffering with the personal
experience of suffering portrayed in the film. What differences are
there? What similarities?
