ALCOHOL 101 ASSIGNMENT

Alcohol 101 is a virtual party.  The CD-ROM is available in the Instructional Media Center lab located in the Comstock Theatre Building.  You must request a copy of the CD and headphones to be used in the lab (it cannot be checked out).  Allow at least an hour to use this program.  You will need to know your user identification and password to log on.  To access the program, go to Start-Programs-Health Center-Alcohol 101-Let’s Party!  You will need to enter some background data (age, weight, height, your drinking behaviors, estimated behaviors of average college students, etc.).  The program will automatically take you to the “Party” and eventually to the “Virtual Bar”.

THE VIRTUAL BAR
1. Select an alcoholic beverage and SLAM it.  What is your BAC? ____
2. DRINK four more drinks (for a total of five).  What is your BAC? ____
3. How long will it take you to return to .00?   ____
4. Click on “Friends” and compare the BAC of a small woman?  ____
5. Choose to “Get Behind the Wheel” from the tool bar at the bottom.  This will take you to “My First DUI”  What are the total costs of the DUI?  __________
6. According to OCTAA, why is estimating BAC a dangerous way to determine safe drinking behavior?
 

On the bottom right click the “Back to Party” icon.  After the audio instructions, click on the “Map” icon on the bottom left.  Turn on the roadmaps by clicking “on”.  You can now navigate through the program by using the map, or roadmaps tool bar (top of page), or arrows.

NORMATIVE BEHAVIORS
1. From the roadmap tool bar at the top of the page, or the index, select the “Normative Behavior” drop down menu and choose “How Much Is Too Much?” After answering the questions, if you decide that you would like to talk to someone about your drinking choices, a confidential chemical issues counselor is available at Kjos Health Center, 299-3662.

2. From the Normative Behavior drop down menu at the top of the page, or the index, select “College Drinking Statistics”.  According to the national survey cited in the program:
