These items include, bi-monthly updates, current news, headline news, and
features such as counseling, health services, and school environment.
This site also lists eight different aspects of health and education as
well as six target behaviors of youth. It offers publications, events
& training, Tobacco prevention programs, sexual education programs,
funding and applications all
of which can be downloaded. This site provided links and local
contacts as well.

Comments: This should be number one on the “great” websites to be considered. It was very user friendly, gave detailed information about how to get health awareness in your school/community, could download information, targeted youth, and offered start up kits, applications, and contacts. This site was awesome. And, it looked great too.

Description: This site is aimed at targeting youth through
school health. This site offers several facts and statistics regarding
youth.
This site lists several surveys with the results in written form as
well as on charts and graphs. This site offers programs that work
for youth, and has a curriculum for Tobacco and HIV education. There
are also school health program guidelines on Aids, healthy eating, injury
and violence, and physical activity. There is ordering information
and links to related sites.

Comments: I think this should also be included in
the “great” websites list. It offers so much information that target
youth. I think this website would be of great value to health educators
all over the nation.

Description: This website offers a variety of health
behavior statistics for your state or any state nationwide. Topics
range from asthsma, binge drinking, AIDS, cholesterol, and weight control.
These health risks can be grouped by gender or age. It also allows
a viewer to look at prevalent data, trends, and historical data.

Comments: “The BRFSS is essential to our public health
efforts to protect and improve the health of communities. It provides data
for planning and policy, an infrastructure for behavioral surveillance,
and a focus for collaboration with other health organizations.” BRFSS Coordinator,
Georgia. BRFSS provides a great link for better understanding of
health risks in a particular state and helps the poplulation be aware of
factors that are more prevalent in a certain area.

Description: Content standards for K-12 in Health
and PE in Minnesota with sample assessment packages. This site offers
several ways in which educators can educate students on lifetime fitness.
The site lists assessment tasks, learning activities, process of concepts,
performance assessments, learning areas & descriptions, and scoring
criteria based on the education level, learning area, and content standard.
Education links are also available on the site.

I think it would be very beneficial to health and physical education teachers.
I feel for that reason this website should be considered “great.”
It was just very user friendly and offered a variety of education techniques
for several education levels.

government information. Key information form Healthy People 2010,
the US Department of Health, and office of disease prevention. Healthfinder
allows searches of prevention, treatment, and diseases, as well as wellness

Description: This website contains a plethora of
information on health topics. It acts like an online library and
is produced by health related agencies of the federal government.
Information can be researched in the most simple of ways by using titles,
or the most detailed of ways by using dates, authors, titles or keywords.
Information is available in many formats; abstracts, coloring books, news
releases, large print, filmstrips, pictures, and the list goes on and on.
It is recommended that people who visit this site first access the welcome
page to familiarize themselves with the site. Easy to get around
in and information is available in any language.
