What is the far side of the moon?

The far side of the moon is always facing away from Earth because of the force of gravity. So when we look at the moon, we always see the same side.

The far side of the moon is frequently - and incorrectly - called the dark side.

The far side of the moon is not always dark.  When the moon is in the new moon stage, the far side of the moon is light.

The moon's far side was a mystery until it was photographed in 1959 by a space probe.
