The 2MeV dust particle accelerator can be used to study many different aspects of the solar system. It can also be used in terrestrial experiments. Some of the possible things one can do with the dust accelerator include:

  • simulating a dusty environment like what one might find around a comet or the rings of a planet
  • testing equipment to see if they function in dusty environments in the solar system
  • performing basic research to better understand impact processes occurring when microscopic inter-planetary dust particles collide with icy bodies in the solar system.
  • understanding the impacts of dust on ceramics and piezoelectric pins.
