101. You are a student volunteer who helps foreign students learn about college life. Give advice an suggestions to a new foreign student (played by your instructor) about what to do in his spare time. Explain what type of activities are available and where they are located.
102. It is Friday. You and your roommate (played by your instructor) try to decide what to do this evening. Your roommate wants to stay in the dorm and play cards, but you want to go out. You suggest several activities and finally agree on what to do.
103. You have just returned from a vacation in a foreign country. Your friend (played by your instructor) will ask you about your trip and what you did there. Explain in sequence your activities.
104. You are a reporter for a local TV station. Tonight you are doing a feature on a local health club. Take your imaginary audience on a tour of the club and point out what activities various guests are engaged in at this very moment.
105. Even though you are not at home, try to imagine what members of your family and close friends are doing. Then tell your instructor what your family and friends are doing right now.
106. You are a doctor that specializes in sports medicine and you have your own call-in radio show. A caller has just asked you to provide information about which sports or activities are best for developing the muscles of the legs, back, heart, arms, neck, chest, and entire body. Give the caller the requested information.
107. You have a sore throat, cough, and sligh fever and you ache all over. You call your doctor's office to arrange an appointment. Talk with the receptionist (played by your instructor) and ask for an apointment as soon as possible.
108. Call a friend to invite him/her to go to the movies with you. However, he/she is not in, so you talk with your friend's father (played by your instructor). Greet the parent, ask for your fiend, explain why you are calling, and leave a message for your fiend to call you.
109. You are touring in a foreign country and your best friend has a fever, cough and cold. Go to a pharmacy and explain to the pharmacist (played by your instructor) that you need some medicine for your friend. Describe your friend's symptoms. Also ask the pharmacist to recommend toothpaste, shampoo, and aspirin for you.
110. Ask your instructor to discuss some recent unexpected events in
his life. Find out
- if something valuable got lost. What?
- if something slipped his mind. What?
- if he broke something accidentally. What?
- what new ideas occurred to him.
- if he ran out of something. What?
111. You are traveling in a foreign country when your tour bus is involved in a minor accident. Several people, however, have aches, cuts, buises, and maybe some broken bones. Since you are the only person on the tour who speaks Spanish, you must tell the doctor what is wrong with the people and where they hurt. Use your imagination to point out the people and their injuries.

117. You go to a travel agency and talk with an agent (played by your instructor) about plans for a two-week vacation trip for next summer. Explain when, where, and with whom you will be traveling. The agent will offer suggestions and you should ask questions about poosible tours and prices. Finish your conversation by making travel and hotel reservations.
118. You are going to spend a few days with a friend at another college. You are going by plane. When you get to the airport, you discover that your ticket is for the wrong day. Talk with the airline ticket agent (played by your instructor). Exchange your ticket for a ticket on the next flight to your destination. Check your luggage, get a boarding pass, and ask what gate you should go to.
119. As soon as this term is over, your roommate (played by your instructor) is leaving for a summer study program in a Spanish-speaking country. He needs advice and suggestions for preparation for the trip. Tell him how and whrn to get a passport, where to go to get an airline ticket and make travel plans, what and when to pack, why he should byt traveler's checks. Explain the sequence of activities and why certain things must be done. Promise to write your roommate often while he is away.
