| Critical Analysis Paper
Galician does a thorough job describing how to
complete your critical analysis paper. You should follow the guidelines
in your textbook to:
-
Analyze your media example using the seven step
dis-illusioning process (pp. 106-110): detection, description, deconstruction,
diagnosis, design, debriefing, dissemination. Answer the questions
and follow the directions for each step. A worksheet that
takes you step by step through the dis-illusioning process is provided
after each myth chapter in your textbook. Galician also provides
an example of completed worksheet on pages 228-229. A
copy of your worksheet will be due in class on
the last day of
class presentations, November 8 NOW
due Tuesday, November 13 (no
grade, but counts for participation points). I will be collecting
your worksheets--Make sure to keep a copy for yourself so you can continue
to keep working on your paper.
-
Using the information you collected on your worksheet,
write a short (approximately 6-8 double-spaced pages) but thorough paper
analyzing and critiquing your media example. Use the example
provided by Galician on pages 232-239 as a model for how to write this
paper.*
-
Use APA-style to document your sources throughout
your paper. Be sure to cite information, ideas, and direct quotations
that you use from the sources you use appropriately, to avoid accidentally
plagiarizing others' work or ideas. Galician also points out that
you should be sure to provide specific examples throughout your paper to
support your analysis. Read over the section called "Documentation"
(p. 110) in your Galician text. We will also spend time in class
addressing how to use APA-style for in-text citations.
-
Format your paper using the suggestions under
the heading "Format Recommendations" (p. 111). You should have a
separate title page and reference page, which should not be included in
your final page count.
-
A minimum of FIVE sources beyond your Galician
textbook are required.
-
Don't forget to e-mail a copy of your FINAL paper
(as well as turn in a hard copy) to me at buslig@cord.edu.
The rough draft of this assignment is due on Tuesday,
November 20, for the in-class workshop. If you bring your rough draft
to class on this day, you will have until Tuesday, November 27, to turn
in your final draft of Paper #1. If you choose not to come
to the workshop, the final draft is due on November 20. [Really,
why would you want to miss out on the chance to go over and polish your
paper with your classmates' help?] |
