      TIPS for Speech #3
    • NEW, and important, for this Speech:
      • Choose a good persuasive organizational structure (Monroe's Motivated Sequence is a great choice!)
      • Use a variety of appeals (ethos, logos, pathos)
      • Make arguments based on good reasoning (1 vs. 2-sided argument, avoid fallacies)
      • Adapt speech based on persuasive poll results
      • Make sure you orally cite FIVE sources
    • Organizational structure is important, as always, but many are doing this well by this point; if you are still struggling with this, make sure to...
      • Don't forget to preview your main points in your introduction
      • Use clear transitions between sections/points
    • Delivery in not a real problem for many of you; even so, you don't want to neglect the importance of practice so that you can...
      • reduce reading and increase eye contact
      • sound more natural and conversational
      • be relaxed and feel free to smile
      • use your voice to create emphasis and increase interest
      • use gestures to increase memory and vividness
    • You may use notecards or an outline--whatever is most comfortable for you
    • You can use the lectern/podium (although you do not have to)
    • You may use visual or presentational aids if you want to, but it is not required this time
    • PRACTICE!
