Break your idea into information pieces. At the top of each column describe each information piece. Add similar words below the description. Each column now has 'search terms' to build a search.

As you use 'search terms' some will work and some won't. One may work in one database but not in another. Make notes, cross off terms and/or add terms as you search. Add more columns if needed.
To much information - narrow your search. Use a term that is more specific.
Not enough information - broaden your search. Use a term that is more generic.
