Make sure your wireless is turned on. For the Gateway
computers, if the little blue
light ((*)) on the bottom of laptop keyboard below the left mouse
clicker, is not lighted; hold down the Fn key and press F2. Also
the little flipper switch on the right front of the Gateways purchased
in 2007, should be in the right position (ON) and the light is to the
right of the switch..
Connect to the wireless network. If you unplug your
computer from the network (unplug port replicator from computer or just
disconnect network cord) and then use a browser such as Internet
Explorer or Firefox, you should be prompted to enter your user ID and
password to access the wireless network
You can log on to the network in your office (wire or wireless)
and just close the top of the computer and bring it to class. In
class you will again have start the VNC (see next bullet) program
because it closes when you close the computer top.
Log on to Classroom Computer
Click on VNC icon.
Enter the computer IP address (to right of VNC Server) , click on medium, and click on connect
If you don't immediately see a request for password ,
there is a problem.
Start over and if you still do not get the request for
password, go to the classroom and restart the classroom computer.
Open classroom computer, touch any key and the Welcome to Windows
message should appear, press the Ctrl,Alt,Del keys and then click
on shut down. Click the drop down menu and choose restart option.
If the computer will not restart, hold down the on/off button
until the classroom computer shuts down and then turn the computer on
again
Enter password provided for the classroom you are using and then you will see the connecting
screen.
You will see the following screen (this is just the top with
VNC tool bar) when you are connected, and instead of pressing
CTRL, ALT, DEL, click on the CAD button on
the top left of the screen. If you do not see this screen
welcoming you to windows but see another screen, someone else is logged
onto the computer. Try not to interrupt what someone is doing and click
on red X to close your VNC session. Assuming no one else is already
logged on, you will be prompted to press CTRL,
ALT, DEL just as you always do when starting a computer. Click on
CAD at that point.
See tool bar buttons (above) left to
right. Ctrl, Alt, and F are keys that can be used instead of buttons.
When not in full screen mode, the following explanations appear
on button when mouse is placed on button.
Begin with the second button: (the button showing a "computer
screen" to the right of CAD button.) The whole screen will be the
classroom computer. Click this button again and you will toggle
off the full screen.
Continuing on with the left to right show of buttons is "Show connection options" (CA F6).
Next, Refresh screen.
Next, Windows start
Send custom key.
Show status window
Close connection (alt F4) log off classroom computer before logging off.
Hide tool bar (CA F9)
Blank monitor (CA F9) (Don't use because when you hit CA F9
again the screen on classroom computer has a delayed restore and
also with the blank monitor the screen will still have a lost
connection message on the screen).
Toggle remote input and remote.
Open file transfer (CA F7) Don't use this feature.
Just use the X drive (File Services (space) X). This X
drive icon is on the desktop of the classroom computer. See
instructions for File Services
Select single window (even with several windows open on the
classroom computer, only one window (program) is projected to the
screen.
Open chat (CA F7)
Next go to full screen by clicking on the small computer screen to the right of CAD.
Now use the classroom computer as you would any other computer.
Remotes
Turn on the projector with the Sharp (white color) remote
by
pressing the ON button. There is one red light on the bottom when
it is turned off and two green lights when it is turn on. If the
projector screen does not show the computer screen (shows screen with
"Notevision" written across in large letters), physically go to the
classroom computer:
Open the cover of the computer.
Hold down the Fn key on lower left side of keyboard.
Press F4 as you hold down the Fn key and you will go through the following cycle:
Projector only (pause to give the computer time to make the change)
Both projector and classroom computer
Computer only
The black remote is for the classroom computer.
Button 1 is "volume up", and button 2 is "volume down".
The reaction is rather slow. You must push the button and
release for each step of change in volume.
"Play stop" of video is button 3.
Any suggestions for button 4?
The left and right mouse buttons are reversed and the left
button is also on the back side of the remote (use index finger
for back button).
Laser pointer button is below mouse touch key.
There is also a remote keyboard with mouse in the top drawer
of the computer cabinet along with the remotes plus a mouse for the
remote computer brought into classroom.
Using VNC, Classroom Computer, Sound, and Classroom Computer DVD Drive
Right click on top VNC line gives the following:
When in full screen mode you can still access the following by moving cursor to top of screen:
You could use this to minimize the classroom computer and return to the
full screen of your personal computer. Then at the bottom of the
screen you could click on VNC to revert to the classroom computer.
Sound control (amplifier) is just above the computer in the
computer classroom cabinet. The little button to the right of the
red light is for bass enhancement. The round buttons functions:
Left is balance.
Second from left is volume. Normally set about as you see in the picture below and turn completely downwhen shutting down.
Middle is bass.
Second from right is mid range
Right is treble.
Leave the second push button from right pushed in.
Use DVD/CD player in classroom computer with PowerDVD program. To allow your laptop screen to catch up with the speed of the DVD,
change connection option by:
(Skip this section if you logged in medium) Click on
the VNC tool bar "show connections" button (or hold down CTRL, Alt and
press F9)
Click on the check mark to left of "Auto
select best settings". (See below)
Click on "256 colors"
click
"OK".
(You may want to make this change when using PowerPoint and other programs too)
Closing Session
Turn the volume down all the way on the classroom computer.
This prevents someone from logging on from outside the room and
interrupting a class.
Log off classroom computer by clicking on "start" and continuing
in the normal manner. You need to log off so the next instructor
can log on.
If you brought in a computer, close the VNC program.
Click VNC tool bar Red X close button or hold down Alt key and
press F4.
Turn volume down in computer cabinet.
Turn off projector. Press the "stand by" remote button twice to turn off.
