File Transfer Guide

Downloading Zilla (FTP program (File Transfer Protocol)

  1. Go to Computer Support Site 
  2. Click on Windows Software
  3. Click on FileZilla.
  4. Click Download that is circled in red.
           
  1. Or just scroll down and click on FileZilla_2_2_32_setup.exe  
     
  1. From here the screens will be different depending on the browser.
  2. With Firefox click on save file: 
         
  1. With Internet Explorer click on save and you may get a security notice:
             
  1. Click the "Click here for options..." as shown above and download (save) the file.
  2.  Go the downloaded file that probably is in a my documents folder with the name "Downloads".  Double click on the file and follow the install instructions by first clicking on English and many times clicking on next.
           
  1.  To search for the file, click on start at the lower left of screen,  then click on search, and next click on "for Files or Folders.."
           
  1. Enter the beginning of the file name, choose the appropriate Look in location,  click on "When was it Modified?", click on "Specify Dates", enter the current date for beginning and ending, and finally click on Search.

  1. Firefox has a default download location accessed by clicking on Tools and then Options.

Using File Zilla Program (Icon should be on your desk top)

  1. Here is the set up:
  1. To get to the above point do the following:
  1. Click on Connect.
  2. Click to appropriate folder and files on your computer.  By holding down the Control (CTRL) key, you can highlight more than one file to be transferred.
  3. Drag the files to server or from server.  Below files are dragged  
            
         

On Campus Transfers and Accessing Space.cord.edu:

1. You can open two folders (a space.cord.edu folder and another folder from your computer).  Then drag from one folder to the other.


Above files are dragged (moved) from my documents to the server folder titled Temp by highlighting the files in my documents and then left click on them and drag to other window.  If the CTRL key is held down when the files are dragged, the files are copied to the new location and the files are also left at the old location.  You will see a little + to the right of the cursor when you are copying instead of moving.

  1. Access the server by clicking on "My Computer" on the desk top and then double click on "File Services (Space)" .  You can also use this screen to make a short cut  with a single left click and then a right click.  With the shortcut created, the icon for "File Services (Space)" will appear on the desktop.
           
  1. On campus normally when files are opened and saved, the "File Services (space) can be used with both a hard wire and wireless connection to the network..  Click the drop down menu and choose "File Services".
               

Student Files

  1. Students can use flash drives.
  2. Students can log onto the classroom computer and access File Services (space) but the instructor must log off.
  3. The File Zilla program can be used.
  4. Using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, files can be opened using ftp.
    1. Click on File, Open, click on drop down menu (look in:), and then click on Add/Modify FTP Locations if space.cord.edu does not appear.


    1. Fill in the screen as shown and click OK.


  1. Click on space.cord.edu and click Open


  1. If space.cord.edu is already present, double click on it and enter user name and password.
  2. Double click on users, double click on the appropriate letter, and double click on your user name.  (These steps not required if current  user is the same as user who last used FTP feature of program)

Sometimes you might get this error message but still the list of names appears, so just continue and find your name.
