10 05 Athens

May 10th We started out at 8 am this morning to eat breakfast in the hotel. After this we made our way to the Acropolis. This place is amazing...there is so much history on such a small hill. We then made our way to the ancient agora (open market) to check out some ruins there. We then walked through the Stoa Museum. It was a small museum, but interesting. We then went our separate ways; we all split up to eat lunch and sight see. We had a chance to shop in the Plaka, which is a shopping district close to our hotel. Some of us even took the subway all the way out to the 2004 Olympic site. We all met to eat supper at 7 pm at the hotel, then had free time for the rest of the evening.

A view of the famed Acropolis of Athens from a distance.

To enter the Acropolis, we must pass through the towering gate, the Propylaia.

The Erechtheion, a sanctuary built over the most holy of sites on the Acropolis. Notice the Caryatids, the maidens that take the place of columns.

Part of the group in front of the Erechtheion: Katie, Aaron, Abbey, Megan, Matt, Angie, Sarah, Dane, and Baret, with Lauren in the background.

A familiar sight: ongoing reconstruction at ancient sites.

Looking back up at Lykavittos Hill, where we were yesterday.
