05 05 Cairo

May 5 - Got to Cairo around 1:30 am (Cairo time). Checked into the hotel and slept for 3 or 4 hours. Had breakfast and went to the Giza Pyramid Complex. First, we visited the Great Pyramid. (Check out all of the photos of students.) Next, we visited the Middle pyramid and took a tour inside to see the tomb. No camaras allowed in this small, hot chamber. Then, we went to the top of a hill and got some great panoramic shots of the three pyramids. It was off to the Sphinx next then to the Papyrus Museum. Had lunch on a riverboat...an interesting experience. Our guide, Amr, gave us a 3 hour guided tour of the Cairo Museum. Still not enough time to see all of the amazing artifacts. Again, no cameras allowed. As we waited for 2 hours for the train to Luxor we spent some quality time studying and writing postcards.

The Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops to the Greeks) on the Giza Plateau outside Cairo, Egypt. It looks shorter now that the limestone casing is gone and the top of the pyramid is missing.
