Dubuque Dual Results - Now Online!


DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Concordia traveled to Iowa and came away with an impressive 3-1 record at the Dubuque Duals.

The Cobbers opened with a 32-9 lose to the #28-ranked Dubuque Spartans. Junior Jordan Hepp (Hwt) and Freshman John Fradette (141) picked up Concordia’s only two wins.

In Concordia’s next match, they pulled off the biggest upset in recent history of the program. The Cobbers came up with a thrilling 24-16 win over #27-ranked Buena Vista. Freshman Luke Vetsch (174) picked up an 11-8 victory to start Concordia on its way to the first dual meet victory of the year. Vetsch’s win was followed by a victory by fellow freshman Tony Neumann (184). Neumann pinned his opponent at the 2:26 mark.

Senior Ed Oehlers (197) then picked up an overtime victory before freshman heavyweight Nate Stumpf, wrestling in his first match of the year, pinned his opponent to give the Cobbers an 18-0 lead. Fradette recorded a 12-9 victory at 141. Senior captain Lee Rahrlien sealed the victory with a 7-2 win at 165.

Concordia finished the day with a 25-18 victory over UW-Oshkosh 25-18 and then a 24-18 decision over UW-Eau Claire.

Against Oshkosh, Neumann at 184 and freshman Matt Olson (125) picked up decisions while junior Smokey McBride (133) won by forfeit. Fradette recorded a major decision with a 17 – 7 win at 141. Freshman Spencer Lund (157) pinned his opponent to give the Cobbers their first lead in the match. Rahrlien once again sealed the victory with a 9-5 victory.

In the final match of the day, Eau Claire jumped to a 12-point lead before heavyweight Jordan Hepp put Concordia on the board with a 5-0 victory. Matt Olson picked up another win and that was followed by McBride’s 11-8 win at 133. Fradette then completed his perfect day by pinning his opponent at 6:36. Another freshman, PJ Mack (149) gained a 7-3 win followed by Lund’s 8-3 victory at 157.

The Cobbers will now have a four-week layoff for the Christmas holiday. Concordia will return to action when they compete at the Dickinson State Open on January 7 starting at 9:00am. Heading into the break Lee Rahrlien and John Fradette have posted the best win-loss records of the team. Rahrlien is 13-4 and Fradette lead the Cobbers in wins with a 16-6 record.
