MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/23/09)-- Concordia head coach Clay Nagel announced the 2008-09 postseason awards on Thursday.

The Cobbers are coming off one of their most successful seasons in program history. Concordia finished the 2008-09 season with a 10-1 dual record. They also placed fifth at the prestigious Cliff Keen National Duals and finished second out of 16 teams in the Great Lakes Region. The Cobbers placed 18th at the NCAA National Championship Tournament.

Cobber sophomore Phil Moenkedick was named the team's Most Outstanding Wrestler. Moenkedick went 35-1 on the year with his only loss coming in the NCAA Championship Match. Moenkedick is a two-time Great Lakes region champion and has 71 wins in his first two seasons at Concordia.

Daron Hohbein was named the Most Outstanding Freshman. He was 29-9 in his first year and was one of nine Concordia wrestlers to win at least 20 matches on the year. He placed fourth at the Great Lakes Region meet.

Outstanding Wrestler:

Phil Moenkedick, Perham, Minn.

Season record- 35-1 and recorded 13 pins. Two-time Great Lakes Region Champion.

Outstanding freshman:

Daron Hohbein, Mandan, N.D.

Season record -29-9 and recorded 10 pins. Placed fourth in the Great Lakes Region

Hardest Workers:

- Justin Berns, Perham, Minn.

Season record -37-13 placed 2nd at the Great Lakes Region.

Ben Anderson, Frazee, Minn.

Season record-35-10 Placed fourth in the Great Lakes Region

Most Improved:

Ross Dankers, Cambridge, Minn.

Season Record-23-19 and placed sixth in the Great Lakes Region

Most Improved Freshman:

Mike Holman, Bloomington, Minn.

Season Record-22-17 and placed Fifth in the Great Lakes Region

Cobber Award (A person who has given beyond normal expectations for the team):

Nick Nadeau, Aitkin, Minn.

 

2008-09 Team Captains:
