D3wrestle.com release: Wrestler of the Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/13/08)-- Concordia freshman Phil Moenkedick (Perham, Minn.) was named the D3wrestle.com National Wrestler of the Week it was announced on Wednesday.

Moenkedick won the award for his championship finish at the North Country Invite at St. John's on Saturday.

At the inovte, Moenkedick became the first Concordia wrestler to win 30 matches in a season since Lee Rahrlien went 32-9 in 2004-05. Moenkedick went 4-0 and won the 174-lb weight division at the North Country Invite hosted by St. John's last weekend.

Moenkedick is now 31-4 on the year and has won three multiple-team invite weight class titles. He also won championships at the Cobber Open and the Jamestown (N.D.) Open. Moenkedick currently leads Concordia in wins, winning percentage and pins on the year. Of his 31 overall wins, 12 have come by a pin fall.

He has also fashioned a 5-1 record in dual meets this year.

Moenkedick is one of five Concordia wrestlers to have 20 wins on the season. The Cobbers also have four athletes with at least 25 wins on the year. It is the first time since the 1989-90 season that CC has had four wrestlers crack the 25-win barrier. Last year they only had one wrestler with at least 25 victories.
