Meet Recap
DICKINSON, N.D. (1/03/09)--Concordia made like the postal service and braved the snow and cold and deliver six top five finishes at the Dickinson State Invite on Saturday. Despite a winter storm blowing through North Dakota, the Cobbers were able to send 12 wrestlers to the meet and come away with 24 overall victories and three top three finishers.

Clay Nagel's squad was without All-American Tony Neumann and undefeated Phil Moenkedick but still came away with several outstanding performances. Justin Berns, who leads the team in victories in 2009, went 2-1 at 149 and finished in second place. He earned a pair of wins over wrestlers from perennial powerhouse Augsburg in his first two matches. Berns is now 21-9 on the year and became the first CC wrestler to surpass the 20-win mark.

Joe Leacox and Ben Anderson were the other two Concordia athletes to finish in the top three of their weight class. Leacox went 3-1 and finished third at 133. Anderson posted the most wins at the invite by any CC wrestler. He was 4-1 and claimed third at 141. He scored a tough 5-2 win over Tony Valek of Augsburg in the third-place match.

Tanner Jorud, Mike Holman and Ross Dankers rounded out the top five sextet for CC. Jorud was 2-2 at 197 and claimed fourth place. Holman and Dankers both went 3-2 and both finished fifth. Holman was fifth at 133 and Dankers was fifth at 174.

Concordia will hope for calmer weather when they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa to compete in the prestigious National Duals Tournament on Jan. 10-11 at the Unidome in Cedar Falls.
