Meet Recap
MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/06/08)--So much for a sophomore slump. After going 36-6 in his freshman season and earning a spot in the NCAA National Meet, Phil Moenkedick has rattled off 11 straight wins to start his second season and is looking like a lock to earn a repeat trip to the national meet.

Moenkedick's latest conquest came at the Dragon Open on Saturday. He posted a perfect 3-0 record to win the 184-lb weight class and earn his second straight multi-team invote championship. Moenkedick cruised to his latest invite title by posting two pins in his first two matches and then claiming a 9-2 decision in the championship bout.

Moenkedick was one of six Cobber wrestlers to earn a first or second-place finish at the meet. He was also one of nine wrestlers that finished in the top four places.

Besides Moenkedick, freshman Daron Hohbein grabbed the championship at the 125-lb weight class in the white division. The meet was seperated into two divisions with freshman and reserve wrestlers competing in the white division. Hohbein went 4-0 at the meet with wins over wrestlers from Augsburg, Jamestown College and St. Cloud State.

Ben Anderson, Justin Berns and Lane Lunde all finished in second place in the red division. Anderson went 3-1 at 141, while Berns was 3-1 at 149 and Lunde posted a 2-1 record to claim runner-up honors at 157.

Cobber All-American Tony Neumann finished in third place at 174. He lost to the eventual champion in the semifinals and along the way posted wins over a pair of wrestlers from Augsburg.

Steve Masterson was the final member of the team to collect a second-place finish. He went 2-1 in the white division at 184. He lost a tough 3-1 decision in the finals.

Concordia will finish off the 2008 portion of their schedule when they compete in the St. Cloud State Husky Open on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 9 a.m.
