Meet Recap:

CEDAR RAPID, Iowa (3/08/08)-- Tony Neumann capped his outstanding junior season by finishing eighth at the NCAA National Meet in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He went 2-3 in the 197-lb weight class and became the first Cobber to earn All-American honors since Nathan Reiff in 1999.

Concordia freshmen Ben Anderson and Phil Moenkedick ended their seasons by going 0-2 at the meet. The three CC wrestlers were the first athletes to compete at the national meet since the 2001 season.

Neumann started his journey by upsetting No.5-seeded Ryan Fogliano of Heidelberg (Ohio) 7-4. He then lost to Craig Bollig of UW-Stevens Point in the quarterfinals. Bollig would go on to claim third place in the weight class.

On Saturday, in the second round of wrestlebacks, Neumann earned his All-American status by beating Joe West of Delaware Valley 6-1. That win assured Neumann of no worse than eighth place - which is the cutoff for All-American honors. He then faced Rob Kramer of Coe College (Iowa) in the third round of the wrestlebacks and fell 8-4. Neumann then finished off the meet by dropping a 10-2 decision to Fogliano.

Neumann ends the year with a 30-17 overall record. He becomes the fourth member of the team to win 30 matches on the season. That is a program record for most 30-win wrestlers in a single season.

Moenkedick entered the national meet seeded sixth at 174. He was coming off the regional championship and had won 16 straight matches and was 36-4 on the year. Unfortunately his national experience was short-lived as he was upset in the first round 11-7 by Michael Reilly of Kings College. The bigger shock came in the second round of wrestlebacks when Moenkedick was downed 15-4 by Evan Brown of Dubuque.

Anderson also dropped his opening two matches of the meet. He ran into a bit of bad luck along the way. After losing to seventh-seeded Austin Bautista of UW-Whitewater in the opener, he had to face the second-ranked wrestler in his weight class. Bautista went on to earn All-American honors and Anderson fell to Dan Hall from Delaware Valley in the second round of wrestlebacks.
