Meet Recap:

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (1/26/08)-- Concordia tuned up for the dual-meet portion of their schedule by competing in the Jamestown Invite on Saturday in Jamestown, N.D. The Cobbers, who will have five dual meets in their next six competitions, had 12 wrestlers place in the meet. CC came away with one weight class champion, one runner-up finish and five third-place medals.

Leading the way for Concordia was freshman Phil Moenkedick. Moenkedick posted an unbeaten record on his way to the title at 174. For Moenkedick it was his second weight-class championship at a multiple-team event. He also won the 174-lb weight class at the Cobber Open in November. In his championship match at the Jamestown Invite, Moenkedick pinned Luke Munkelwitz of DII St. Cloud State.

Joe Meinert had his best performance of the season as he placed second at 157. Meinert ran the table until the championship match where he lost a close battle to Taylor Nagel of NDSU.

The five third-place finishers were Jason Brill (125), Josiah Simburger (133), Lane Lunde (165), Luke Vetsch (174) and Tony Neumann (197). Brill pinned Ivan Forte of MSU Moorhead to capture his third-place title. His only loss was to the defending Division I national champion Paul Donahoe of Nebraska. Simburger defeated Zach Halcumb of Jamestown for third. Halcumb was ranked eighth in the nation in NAIA. Lunde recorded a technical fall victory for the third-place honor at 165. Vetsch avenged an earlier round lost to his Jamestown opponent to take third place. Neumann defeated Chris Thoreson of Jamestown for third. Neumann's only loss on the day was to Craig Brester of Nebraska. Brester is currently ranked ninth in NCAA Division I.

The other Cobber place winners at the 12-team meet were Jason Berns, who took fourth place at 149. Justin Horne (141), Ross Dankers (174), Tanner Jorud (197) and Nick Nadeau (285) took sixth place in their respective weight classes.

The Cobbers will have a pair of home dual meets this week. They will square off against St. John's on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 5:30 p.m. CC will then host Southwest Minnesota State on Super Bowl Sunday at 1 p.m.
