(1/19/08)-- Concordia spent the second straight weekend on an extended road trip and for the second straight Saturday showed signs of being one of the top 25 teams in the country. The Cobbers went to Illinois and came away with a second-place finish at the Elmhurst Invite on Saturday. Concordia finished with 110.5 total points which was one point better than No.25-ranked Elmhurst. It marks the second straight weekend that the Cobbers have posted a win over a nationally ranked team. CC had nine wrestlers finish in the top five of their weight class and had a pair of athletes claim weight class championships and a third claim the Most Falls award. The second-place finish is the highest place at a multi-team event this year. Of the 18 wrestlers that participated in the tournament, 15 had at least two wins on the day and eight had at least three wins for the meet. The Cobbers were led by Tony Neumann, Luke Vetsch and Zach Schumack. Neumann and Vetsch won their individual weight class and Schumack walked away with the Most Falls title. Neumann went 3-0 at 197, while Vetsch was 3-0 at 174. Schumack dropped his first match but then rattled off four straight pins and added a fifth win to record a third-place finish at 149. Concordia freshman Justin Berns and Ben Anderson came away with runner-up finishes. Berns was 3-1 at 141 and lost 14-4 to fifth-ranked Jeff Kastel of Elmhurst. Anderson also went 3-1. He finished second at 141. Joe Leacox and Lane Lunde were the only other two Cobber wrestlers with more than three wins on the day. Leacox went 4-1 and finished third at 141 and Lunde posted a 5-2 record and claimed fourth place at 165. The Cobbers will stay on the road and face Ithasca CC in a dual meet on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. CC will then compete in the Jamestown Open on Saturday, Jan. 26. Final Team Results: 1.
