Courtesy of GoCobbers.com, Release: January 12 Meet Recap: CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA (1/12/08)-- It was status quo for Concordia at the National Duals Meet held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Saturday. The Cobbers' 1-2 record on the day featured losses to the two nationally-ranked opponents they faced and a win over No.15-ranked Cornell (Iowa). CC is now 1-3 in dual meets this season. Lane Lunde and Tony Neumann were the top Concordia wrestlers on the day. Both athletes went 2-1 in their three matches. Lunde had wins over opponents from No.5-ranked Luther and Cornell and Neumann had victories over foes from No.3-ranked UW-La Crosse and Cornell. Jason Brill pulled off one of the biggest wins of the three matches. He scored a 7-6 win over Brandon Music from No.3-ranked UW-La Crosse. La Crosse went on to finish second in the entire tournament and Music posted wins over wrestlers from No.6-ranked Heidelberg (Ohio) and No.2-ranked Augsburg. Neumann answered Brill's big win by posting a decisive 14-1 edge over Zach Strickland. The Cobbers opened the day by losing to #3 UW-La Crosse 31-7. Brill started the match with one of CC's two wins by getting the decision over Music. The two other closest matches came at 149 and 157. Justin Berns lost an 11-7 decision at 149 and then Joe Meinert dropped an 8-4 bout at 159. In the second round, Concordia scored a solid 25-20 win over Cornell. The Rams entered the match with season wins over nationally-ranked Loras and conference for St. John's. Both teams won five individual matches bu the Cobbers claimed the win over Cornell by virtue of pin falls by Lunde, Phil Moenkedick and Tony Neumann. The other two winners in the match were Josiah Simburger and Berns. Against Luther, Lunde and Cody Salo came away with the only wins for CC. Lunde scored a 10-2 decision and Salo won with a 7-3 score. Concordia will stay on the road when they compete at the Elmhurst (Ill.) Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 19 beginning at 9 a.m. The event is a top precursor to the NCAA regional meet held in late February.
