Meet Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/05/07)-- Closer and closer the Cobbers creep to the Dragons. In 2005, the Cobbers were beaten by MSU Moorhead 40-3 and the Dragons had four pin falls. Last year Concordia was dropped 30-3 with nine of the ten matches being won by a decision. On Wednesday, CC lost 30-7 to nationally-ranked MSU M and lost four individual matches by three or fewer points.

Add to the facts that one of the Cobbers' top early-season wrestlers was held out of the match due to a borderline health problem and the cross-town rivalry is starting to heat up.

The dual was the season-opener for both teams. MSU Moorhead entered the match ranked 15th in the preseason NCAA Division II poll, while Concordia was coming off a pair of successful multiple-team invitationals.

The Dragons seized control of the match by winning the first three bouts. At 125, Joe Werner pulled out a 10-6 decision over Jason Brill and then at 133, the Dragons' Kelly Janke, a 2007 DII national meet qualifier, was able to come up with the only pin fall of the match when he pinned Todd Reynolds at 125.

MSU M then claimed one of the two tightest decisions of the night when Derek Bomstad edged Josiah Simburger 6-5 due to riding time.

Concordia had to forfeit the next match at 149 when it was deemed that Justin Berns might have a skin lesion. Bern was one of the hottest Cobber wrestlers entering the match, having placed third at the Dragon Open on Saturday with a 4-1 record. The winner of the forfeit at 149 was MSU Moorhead's Shane Walton who finished fifth at the Dragon Open three days earlier.

CC broke onto the board with their first win of the night when Logan Lunde beat Kyle Durkowitz 6-5 in double overtime.

After Lane Lunde lost a tough 7-4 decision at 165, Concordia's top wrestler freshman Phil Moenkedick cruised to a 14-2 win over Dustin Nagel to win his 12th straight match. Moenkedick is now 12-1 on the season after losing his first collegiate bout at the NDSU Open.

The Dragons closed out the match by earning close decisions in the final three weight classes.

Concordia will head back to multiple-team invitational wrestling when they compete at the St. Cloud State Husky Open on Saturday, Dec. 8 beginning at 9 a.m.
