MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/01/07)-- Concordia took an unprecedented 23 wrestlers to the Dragon Open and came away with just as much success as CC had nine wrestlers finish in the top five of their weight class and two wrestlers win their weight division.

Freshman Phil Moenkedick continued his early-season tear by winning the 174-lb weight class in the White Division. Moenkedick has now won 11 straight matches after dropping his first collegiate bout and is now 11-1 on the year. He has won his weight class in the last two invites he has competed in. Justin Horne was the other CC athlete to win his weight class. He went 4-0 in the Blue Division of the 141-lb weight class.

Perhaps the most impressive results for the day came from a pair of third-place finishes. Both Justin Berns and Tony Neumann earned third-place honors in the Red Division of their weight classes. The Red Division was the top classification at the meet. Berns went 4-1 at 149 with his only loss coming to  Vince Salminen, a scholarship athlete from NDSU. Berns is now 11-5 on the season. Neumann won five straight on his way to winning third place at 197. He dropped his opening match but then went on a streak to finish the meet with five straight wins.

A pair of freshman claimed second-place finishes in the White Division. Jason Brill went 3-1 at 125 and Joe Meinert posted a similar 3-1 mark at 149.

Fellow freshman Ben Anderson followed the same route as Neumann as he lost his opening match and then rattled off five straight wins to earn third-place honors at 141 in the White Division.

Concordia will open their 2007-08 dual meet season when they square off against MSU Moorhead on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. at MSU Moorhead.
