Six Cobbers Finish In Top Five! |

(1/27/07)-- Concordia capped off its open tournament schedule in the 2006-07 season by placing five wrestlers in the top five of their individual weight classes at the Jamestown Open on Saturday. The Cobbers brought 18 wrestlers to the competition and had 12 record at least two victories in the meet. Six of those 12 finished in the top six in their weight class and four CC wrestlers recorded four wins on their way to top five finishes. All told, Concordia athletes posted 34 wins on the day. The top Concordia finisher at the meet was Tony Neumann who went 3-1 in the 184-lb weight class and finished in second place. He opened the meet by pinning his first opponent in the third period and then went on to claim an 8-2 decision in the semifinals before falling to No.1-ranked Aaron Young of Itasca CC in the championship bout. Neumann was joined by teammate Theo Gagner in the top five at 184. Gagner took a different route to finishing third in the weight class. After losing his first match of the day, He went on to rattle off three straight victories and claim third. A trio of Cobbers came away with fourth-place honors. Joe Leacox continued his recent trend of success at 133. He went 4-2 in Jamestown to run his team-leading win total to 23 on the season. He has won 10 of his last 12 matches. Leacox also posted one of the top wins for CC in the meet. He came up with a tough 10-6 decision over Jake Mellmer who is one of the top prospects for the University of Minnesota. Joining Leacox with identical 4-2 records on the day were Zach Schumack and Logan Lunde. Schumack finished fourth at 149, while Lunde claimed fourth at 157. Matt Nyvold rounded out the top five finishers for CC by placing fifth at 125. Brandon Bartyzal finished sixth at 149 and had a perfect 2-0 record but had to retire after his second match due to a temporary injury. Bartyzal is now 22-15 on the season. The Cobbers will finish of the regualr season of their schedule with four straight dual meets.
