Meet Recap:

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (1/20/07)-- The Cobber wrestling team has turned their recent dual meet swing into another foundation block of their ever-growing successful season skyscraper. Concordia went 3-1 at the Terry Haws Dual Meet hosted by St. John's on Saturday and have now won six of their past seven dual meets since the end of December. The 3-1 record helped CC finish second at the meet.

The Cobbers, who are now 6-3 in dual meets on the year, had the unenviable task of squaring off against No.3-ranked UW-La Crosse in the opening match of the invite. Concordia battled the nationally-ranked Eagles for nine of the ten matches before falling 38-6. Joe Leacox provided the lone win for the Cobbers. He pinned Chris Winter just 1:27 into their bout at 133. Leacox used the momentum from his win to go on and record a perfect  4-0 record at the meet.

Leacox was joined by freshman Brandon Bartyzal as the only two Cobbers to not suffer a loss on the day. Bartyzal did not wrestle against La Crosse and then went 3-0, winning two bouts by a pin, in the final three matches of the meet.

Perhaps the most intense, hard fought match of the day came at 165 in the La Crosse match. Lane Lunde, who entered the match with a team-best 20 wins on the year, went head-to-head with No.2-ranked Scott Dorn for the entire three periods. The two wrestlers were tied at 2-2 after three periods but Dorn earned a point, and a 3-2 win, due to an advantage in riding time.

The Cobbers then took out their frustrations in their next match against UW-Eau Claire. CC four of the first five matches en route to a 27-16 victory. Logan Lunde and Tony Neumann provided the pins for Concordia. Lunde matched Leacox's feat of coming up with a first-period fall when he pinned Mike Walker at 1:42. Neumann also came away with a first-period fall.

In the team's third match of the day, Concordia bettered fourth-ranked Ridgewater 36-10. Ridgewater is ranked fourth in the latest NJCAA Division III rankings. Bartyzal came away with his second straight pin. Cody Salo and Theo Gagner got in on the pin action as they posted falls in their bouts at 174 and 197. The pair was part of three crucial Cobber victories in the final four matches.

In the final match of the day, the Cobbers blanked Regina 57-0. CC won four of the five contested matches by a fall.

Concordia will continue their dual meet stretch when they host St. John's on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Wadena High School. The Cobbers will then compete in the Jamestown Open on Saturday, Jan. 27.
