Meet Recap:

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (1/12/07)--Concordia  opened the 2007 portion of their schedule in style as they cruised past St. Olaf 41-9 in a dual meet in Northfield on Friday.

The win is the third of the year for Concordia in dual meets. After losing the season opener to MSU Moorhead, CC has now won three of their last four and is 3-2 on the season. The Oles are now 1-7 in dual meets and have lost seven straight after winning their season opener against Knox College.

Concordia opened the dual meet by claiming the first six matches. Of the 10 matches, the Cobbers won eight and captured two by fall.

Brandon Bartyzal and Tony Neumann were the two Cobber athletes to pin their opponents. Bartyzal beat Ian Gatcheru in the first period at 2:28 in the 149-lb match to give CC a 20-0 lead. The win was Bartyzal's 17th of the season - second best on Concordia. Neumann pinned George Jiminez at 4:34 in the 184-lb weight class to put CC up by a commanding 38-3 margin. For Neumann, it was his 11th win of the season.

The match started with the Cobbers' Matt Nyvold earning a win by forfeit. It was the first of three forfeits CC would receive in the match. After Nyvold's forfeit win, Joe Leacox won a 20-5 major decision at 133. Josiah Simburger followed that up with a 4-1 win at 141 over the Oles' Dan Rysavy. The 3-point deciosn was the closest of any match during the meet.

Bartyzal pinned Gatcheru at 149 and then the Lunde brothers (Logan at 157 and Lane at 165) won by forfeit. Cody Salo then fell 10-3 at 174 before Neumann recaptured the momentum for CC by winning by fall at 184.

Cobber heavyweight Preston Lyles finished off the match by winning his fourth match of the year by earning an 11-5 win over Jake Lambers.

Concordia will participate in their second-to-last open invitational of the season when they travel to the Al Hanke Invite on Saturday, Jan. 20. The meet begins at 10 a.m.
