Meet Recap:

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (12/30/06)-- Concordia finished off the Citrus Open by competing in the duals portion of the competition in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday. The Cobber "Gold" team went 2-1 in their three dual matches, while the Concordia "Maroon" squad finished 1-1.

Lane Lunde finished off his perfect Citrus Duals Open by winning all three of his matches. He was the only Cobber wrestler to put together three wins on the day. Sophomore Cody Salo went 2-0 on the day winning his first two bouts but was then held out of competition in the final match against John Carroll.

The Cobbers started the day by edging Rhode Island 18-16. The match swung around the 165, 174 and 184lb. weight-class matches where Concordia went 3-0 and turned the competion in their favor. Salo pulled out a 4-1 decision in his match at 165 and then Lunde, who was wrestling up a class at 174, edged Arty Priedenyuk 3-1 before Tony Neumann completed the trifecta of Cobber wins by blanking Eric Martell 7-0.

Concordia then defeated perennial power Simpson 27-13. Simpson finished ninth at the NCAA Division III Championship Meet last year and has finished in the top ten in the nation the past three seasons. Matt Nyvold started the match by pinning Tony Hager at the start of the second period. Joe Leacox then won by forfeit and Josiah Simburger was awarded a win by an injury default at 141. Staked to a 12-0 lead, Concordia then received wins from Lunde, Salo and Adam Westby to close out the 14-point win.

In the final match of the day for the Gold team, Concordia fell 28-8 to John Carroll. John Carroll has lost only once in a dual meet all season and finished third in the Citrus Open individual competition. Against the Blue Streaks, Concordia lost the first five matches of the contest and were never able to recover. Lunde recorded the only win for the Cobbers as he defeated Steve Bagnowski 9-1.

The Cobber maroon team was led by Spencer Lund and Theo Gagner who won both matches. The two wrestlers both went 2-0 and posted two of the three non-forfeit wins in the two matches. Justin Lehmann was the other Cobber to record a victory as he won a major decision in Concordia's 33-22 win over Mt. St. Joseph.

After beating Mt. St. Joseph in the opener, the Cobber maroon team lost a heart-breaking 22-21 decision to Wilmington College.

Concordia returns home to take on St. Olaf on Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. in a dual meet in Northfield, Minn.
