CLOUD, Minn. (12/09/06)-- Concordia took 21 wrestlers to the St. Cloud State Husky Open on Saturday, and once again posted several outstanding individual results and had a pair of wrestlers place in the top six in the ultra-competitive invitational. Matt Olson and P.J. Mack turned in the two top six finishes for the Cobbers. Olson went 3-3 in the 125-lb weight class and finished sixth. Along the way he posted a 7-5 decision over Dan O'Neil from St. Cloud State. Mack carried his success over from his win in the MSU Moorhead dual meet and came away with a 6-2 record, which was good for fifth place at 141. Mack opened the meet with a 3-2 decision over Ryan Reed of Southwest Minnesota State. He was then pinned by No.1-seeded Quincy Osborn of Augsburg. Mack rebounded by posting wins over Chris Fast of Southwest Minnesota State, Brent Bunne of Rochester Technical College, sixth-ranked Jason Adams of Augsburg and Greg Sherik of Ridgewater College. He then lost again to Osborn in the wrestleback semifinals before claiming a win over No.3-ranked Efrain Ayala of MSU Mankato. Mack is now 9-4 in the team's last three outings. Besides Olson and Mack, two other Concordia athletes posted three wins on the day. Matt Nyvold went 3-2 at 125 and Lane Lunde went 3-2 at 165. Lunde had several outstanding results in the meet. In the wrestleback second round he recorded a 7-0 decision over Tom Anderson of DII St. Cloud State. He then beat Anderson's teammate Matt Steffenson 3-1 in the third round of the wrestlebacks. Lunde's best match of the day came in the fourth round of the wrestlebacks where he lost in overtime to Nathan Matousek of the University of Minnesota 5-3 in overtime. Matousek is on the DI powerhouse Gopher wrestling team and is a multiple Minnesota state champion and at one time held the record for most wins in a high school career. Concordia will now take a break until after Christmas when they will travel to Florida to compete in the prestigious Citrus Open on December 29-30.
