STEVENS POINT, Wis.-- Less than 24 hours after getting blown out 10-0 to fifth-ranked UW-Stevens Point, Concordia battled the Pointers on Sunday to the very end and lost 3-1. The start of the game on Sunday did not deviate from Saturday's theme, as UW-Stevens Point scored just 47 seconds into the first period and looked to post their second straight big win. The Cobbers were able to tighten things up defensively for the rest of the period and goalie Jenna Johnson made sure that would be the only goal scored in the first 20 minutes of action. Concordia then proceeded to play their best period of the weekend in the second stanza. The Cobbers rattled off 11 shots on the Pointer goal and scored their first goal of the year. Stevens Point pushed the lead to two goals at 2-0 at the 6:29 mark, but then the Cobber determination paid off when freshman Britt Vander Kooy slammed home a power play goal at 17:08. The goal sparked a Concordia rally and the team finished the period with the deficit at one at 2-1. The Pointers scored their insurance goal three minutes into the final period and continued to press the Cobber net for the rest of the game, outshooting Concordia 14-3 in the final 20 minutes. For the game, Stevens Point held a 39-16 advantage in shots on goal. Concordia was 1-for-5 on the power play and cut down the Pointer power play chances. The Cobbers allowed a lone man-advantage goal in two opportunities. Concordia goalie Jenna Johnson made 36 saves in the game. Pointer goalie Amy Statz turned aside 15 shots to pick up the victory. The Cobbers will have almost a two-week break before hosting St. Ben's in the conference opener on Nov. 19-20.
