ST. PAUL, Minn.-- For the second straight game, Concordia was unable to crack the airtight goaltending of Bethel netminder Beth Spurrier and were shutout. On Friday night, the Cobbers lost 3-0 and then were held scoreless on Saturday and fell 2-0.

Concordia had 24 shots on goal in the game and 46 in the series but were never able to find the back of the net and lost for the fourth straight game.

The loss drops Concordia's MIAC mark to 4-8-2 and puts their overall record at 4-12-3. Bethel meanwhile stays in the hunt for a playoff spot and improves to 8-6 in conference play and 9-8-2 overall.

Bethel scored lone goals in the first and third periods to beat the Cobbers for the second consecutive day. Both goals were even-strength. Lisa Kinney scored her 12th goal of the season at 5:07 of the first period to stake the Royals to a 1-0 lead.

Bethel held the lead through the second period even thought Concordia outshot the Royals 10-8 in the middle frame.

Heidi Govednik gave Bethel an insurance goal when she scored at 11:00 of the final period. Despite trying to end with a flurry, Concordia was never able to find the back of the net against Spurrier, who recorded her fifth shutout of the season.

Bethel outshot Concordia 33-24 in the game. Cobber goalie Jenna Johnson made 22 saves while Spurrier turned aside all 24 shots.

There were only two penalties called in the entire game. Both teams were whistled for one infraction and both went 0-for-1 on the power play.

Concordia will finish the regular season with two road series. The Cobbers will play at St. Thomas on Feb. 17-18 and then end at Augsburg on Feb. 24-25.
