Gameday Game Recap ST. PAUL, Minn.-- Concordia scored the game-tying goal less than one minute into the third period and came away with a hard-fought tie against Hamline in St. Paul on Friday. The tie earns the Cobbers a critical road point and keeps them in fifth place in the MIAC with 10 points. Concordia is now 3-4-2 in the MIAC and 3-8-3 overall. They have only lost once in the past five games and have posted a 3-1-1 record during that stretch. Hamline moves to 2-5-2 in league play and 3-7-4 overall and has not lost in the past two games. The two teams did the majority of the scoring in the first period. Hamline scored first and added two more goals, while the Cobbers countered with a pair of goals and trailed 3-2 after the first 20 minutes. Ceara Bergsrud got Concordia on the board after Hamline had moved out to a 1-0 lead. Bergrsrud scored on the power play at the 8:00 mark. After the Pipers went ahead for the second time, freshman Alyssa Dahl notched her team-leading sixth goal of the year at 18:00 to bring Concordia level at 2-2. It appeared that the teams would go into the break even up but Hamline scored at 19:30 on the power play to regain the lead at 3-2. A scoreless second period led to the game-deciding final 20 minutes. The game game was almost called after the second period due to a breakdown in the Zamboni. The ice was not resurfaced after the first period and would have been deemed unplayable but the attendants at the Drake ice rink were able to solve the problem and the ice was cleaned after the second period to allow the game to continue. A clean sheet of ice was the perfect remedy for the Cobber deficit. Kelsey Puffe scored just :37 into the third period to gain the third, and final, tie of the game. Dahl and Bre Bian were credited with assists on the play giving Dahl a team-leading nine points on the year. For Puffe, it was her second goal in as many games. The two teams were unable to unlock the tie in the final 19 minutes of regualtion and five-minute overtime session and had to settle for the tie. Concordia goalie Jenna Johnson went the distance and finished with 29 saves as Concordia was outshot 32-21. Hamline goalie Crystal Testolin made 18 saves to earn the tie. The Cobbers committed eight penalties but held Hamline to 1-of-8 on the power play. Concordia's special teams accounted for all three goals, going 3-for-7. Concordia and Hamline will finish the two-game series tomorrow afternoon at 2:00pm at Drake Arena in St. Paul, Minn.
