MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/20/09)-- Concordia scored three straight goals in the second and third periods and then had to hang on for the final 12 minutes of the game to come away with a 5-4 win over St. Olaf in Moorhead on Friday. The win in the conference opener for the Cobbers ups their overall record to 4-2 on the year and it is the second straight win for CC.

The Oles threatened to blow the game open in the first period of play as they scored three of the game's first four goals - all in the first 20 minutes of the game. Concordia was not to be outdone on the scoreboard as they never allowed the Oles to take more than a one-goal lead in the game.

Things changed for the Cobbers in the second period when they tied the game at 3-3 in the first seven minutes of play and then added two more at the end of the middle period and start of the final frame. St. Olaf then tightened up the game by scoring their final goal of the game at 8:28. For the final 10 minutes of play, Concordia kept the Oles off the board and were able to come out with the one-goal win.

Five different players scored for Concordia. Katelyn Dold and Kit Hollway scored in the first period. Abby Zinken and Kayla Thorson added second-period scores before Emily Sell scored on a breakaway in the third period to put away the game winner. For Sell it was her team-leading sixth goal of the season. She has now scored at least one goal in four of the team's six goals on the year.

St. Olaf (2-2/0-1 MIAC) outshot Concordia 38-35 for the game. Cobber goalie Maddie Haroldson made 34 saves to earn her second win of the season. St. Olaf goalie Erin McNamara turned aside 30 shots in the losing effort.

The two teams will finish off their two-game series on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. at the Moorhead Sports Center.
