STEVENS POINT, Wis. (11/08/09)-- Concordia outshot UW-Stevens Point 28-26 but gave up two second-period goals and fell 2-1 in Stevens Point, Wis. on Sunday. It is the first loss of the season for the Cobbers and wraps up their three-game opening-weekend road trip.

The two teams played through an even first period without scoring a goal. Both squads had nine shots on goal and both took one penalty. Stevens Point (4-1) opened the scoring at the 6:02 mark of the second period. The lead wouldn't last very long as the Cobbers tied the score just :23 seconds later. Katelyn Dold scored her third goal of the weekend at 6:25. It was an unassisted goal, and like the Pointers first goal, it came with both teams playing at full strength.

The Pointers got the game-winning goal in the second half of the period. After the Cobbers were whistled for a cross-checking penalty the Pointers scored on the power play at 13:11.

Concordia tried to tie the game in the third period and held a decisive 12-5 advantage in shots on goal but were never able to come up with their second goal.

For the game, Concordia outshot the Pointers 28-26. CC was 0-for-1 on the power play while Stevens Point was 1-for-6.

Cobber goalie Maddie Haroldson made 24 saves and watched as her record fell to 1-1. Pointer netminder Staci Pomering stopped 27 shots to earn the win.

Concordia will host their home opener next weekend when they square off against UW-Superior on Friday and Saturday. Both games will be on the north rink at the Moorhead Sports Center.
