Gameday Game Recap:
ST. PETER, Minn. (2/14/09)--
Concordia was hoping to rebound against No.1-ranked Gustavus on Saturday after losing 7-0 to the Gusties on Friday. Unfortunately the Cobbers received more of the same medicine as they were blanked for the second straight time and lost 5-0 in St. Peter.
The loss drops Concordia's overall record to 10-9-4 on the year. CC is now 7-6-3 in the MIAC and will need to win one of their final two games in order to clinch a conference playoff spot and a home game in the first round of the league playoffs. The Gusties win their 10th straight game and improve to 18-1-3 in all games and 14-0-2 in league games. GAC is now unbeaten in their last 21 games.
For the second straight game Concordia stayed close to the top team in the nation for two periods but then fell in the final frame. On Friday the Cobbers conceded four goals in the final 20 minutes to turn a 3-0 contest into a 7-0 rout. On Saturday, CC was clinging to a 2-0 deficit but then watched the Gusties rattle off three goals in the first 11:03 of the period to erase any doubt about the decision.
Concordia was outshot 54-16 in the game as Cobber goalie Amber Malcolm made 49 saves in the game. For the weekend CC was outshot 117-27. Gustavus goalie Emily Klatt turned aside 16 shots to pick up her fifth shutout of the season.
Concordia will look to clinch a playoff spot and gain momentum for the conference tournament when they play at St. Kate's on Friday, Feb. 20 and Saturday, Feb. 21.
