ST. CLOUD, Minn. (2/06/09)--
For the second straight game Concordia played through a scoreless overtime with St. Ben's and had to settle for a tie. The Cobbers tied the game-tying goal late in the second period and then neither team scored in the third period or overtime session and they had to a settle for a 1-1 tie in St. Cloud. The overtime tie is the fifth overtime game CC has played this season. They are now 0-1-4 in those five games.
The tie gives Concordia one conference point and keeps the Cobbers in fourth place in the standings. CC is now 7-4-3 in the MIAC. That is good for 17 points, five points ahead of fifth-place St. Olaf and three points behind third-place Bethel. Concordia is now 10-7-4 overall.
The Cobbers skated to the 1-1 tie despite outshooting the Blazers (6-7-3/4-7-3 MIAC) 46-34. The biggest advantage came in the second period when Concordia outshot St. Ben's 19-9.
The Blazers opened the scoring in the game when they notched their only goal of the game at 9:55 of the opening period. The game would stay at 1-0 in favor of CSB until Bre Bian scored her second goal of the series and eighth of the season. at 18:45 of the second period. Kaylee Black and Sara Sonnenberg picked up the assists on the play. For Bian it was her fourth point of the series. She had a hand in all four CC goals on the weekend.
Concordia goalie Julie York made 33 saves in the game while St. Ben's goalie Lauren Herzog stopped 45 shots in the game.
The Cobbers will play at Gustavus next weekend on Friday and Saturday.
