Gameday Game Recap:
MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/24/09)--
For the second straight game Concordia was unable to score on St. Thomas and lost 1-0 in overtime to the No.7-ranked Tommies in Moorhead on Saturday. The Cobbers were kept in the game by an outsanding performance from goalie Maddie Haroldson who made 44 saves. The loss is the fourth in the past five games for CC who falls to 8-7-2 overall and 5-4-1 in the MIAC.
Concordia has now gone 135:21 without scoring a goal as the net has turned into a thimble for the Cobbers. Both teams had several chances to score in regulation but both goalies made sure that no team would get the go-ahead goal.
The Cobbers had an 11-9 edge in shots on goal in the first period but was then outshot 15-6 in the second period. Both teams had 18 shots in the third period and St. Thomas had the only three shots of the extra period.
St. Thomas (11-3-1/8-1-1 MIAC) won the game by claiming the face off at the start of overtime. They then controlled the puck in the Cobber zone and were able to get a pair of shots that Haroldson was able to turn aside. However, on the third chance in the first 30 seconds, Sarah Armstrong slid the puck into the goal for the game winner. For Armstrong it was her first goal of the season. Taylor Schluter and Jamie Tiede were credited with the assists on the play.
Neither team was able to score on the power play. CC went 0-for-3 and the Tommies were 0-for-4. Concordia had only eight shots in their three power play attempts and UST was held to only five shots in their four chances.
St. Thomas outshot the Cobbers 45-35 in the game. Tommie goalie Lauren Bradel made 35 saves to pick up her second shutout of the weekend and third of the season.
Concordia will stay at home when they host Augsburg on Friday, Jan. 30 and Saturday, Jan. 31. Both games will be at the Moorhead Sports Center.
