Gameday Game Recap:

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (12/06/08)-- For the past several seasons St. Olaf has been a thorn in the Cobbers' side. Concordia had not posted a win against the Oles in the past five games until CC was able to score four of the final five goals in the game and beat St. Olaf 4-2 on Saturday in Northfield. The win avenges the Cobbers' loss to the Oles on Friday night and pushes the team's record to 6-2-0 overall and 5-1-0 in the MIAC heading into the Christmas break.

The game threatened to be a repeat of Friday night where St. Olaf scored a pair of first-period goals and then coasted to a 5-1 win. On Saturday, the Oles scored a goal at the 1:09 mark of the opening period. However, the Cobber defense then held St. Olaf off the board for the next 15 minutes. In between those two goals, Concordia was able to score a pair of their own only :30 seconds apart. Both goals came on the power play after the Cobbers were on a 5-on-3 advantage. The first came from Kayla Thorson at 15:22. That was followed by a goal from Bre Bian at the 15:52 mark. For Thorson it was her second goal of the season and would be the first of two points on the night. Bian's goal was her team-leading fourth of the year.

St. Olaf then tied the game less than :20 seconds later. CC allowed a goal at 16:10 and the two teams went to the second period all tied at 2-2.

Neither team was able to score in the second period and for most of the final period until Kayla Hendrickson broke apart the tie at the 14:58 mark. Fellow freshman Becca Kent then added an insurance gol at 16:21 to push the final score to 4-2.

For the second straight night Concordia outshot St. Olaf. The Cobbers outshot the Oles 35-20 for the game and 63-44 for the two-game series. Cobber goalie Maddie Haroldson made 18 saves in the game while Ole goalie Erin McNamara stopped 31 shots in the three periods.

Concordia will have an extended break for the Christmas holiday. The Cobbers will return to action on Friday, Jan. 2 when they play at Concordia (Wis.) at 7 p.m.
