Gameday Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/04/08)-- Concordia allowed a pair of goals in the first five minutes of play and then two more in the final six minutes against Lindenwood and lost 6-1 to the Lions in an exhibition game on Friday. The game was a tune-up for the Cobbers, who open play in the MIAC on Jan. 21 when they host St. Olaf.

The game didn't start the way head coach Ace Gregg had diagramed on the blackboard before the opening faceoff. Lindenwood (14-2-0) netted two goals 1:41 apart in the first five minutes of the first period to grab a 2-0 lead. Concordia would finally recover, and wound up outshooting the Lions 11-9 in the period. Despite their numerical advantage in shots on goal, CC was never able to get the puck past netminder Becca Bernet - a theme that would continue throughout the game.

After the goals by Mandy Dion and Ashley Boye, the teams settled into an even rhythm for the second period with Lindenwood notching the only goal of the frame at 18:06 when Boye scored her second goal of the game.

The Lions stretched their lead to four goals with a score at the 6:06 mark of the final period before Concordia finally got on the board at the 11:32 mark. Kayla Thorson jammed home a rebound after Kacey Franklin and Ceara Bergsrud had thrown the puck on the net.

Lindenwood then finished off the game by scoring two goals in the final six minutes. Kat Hannah scored at 14:25 and then Nathalie Larsen scored an empty-net goal at 19:45.

For the game, Concordia outshot the Lions 29-26. There were only six penalties called in the game. The Cobbers were 0-for-1 on the power play, while Lindenwood was 1-for-2.

Concordia played all three goalies with each netminder playing one period. Amber Malcolm started the game and made seven saves. Julie York played the second period and also stopped seven shots. Maddie Haroldson finished off the game and made six saves in the final 20 minutes of play. Bernet stopped 28 shots for the Lions.

The Cobbers will have a two-week break before returning to action on Jan. 21 when they host St. Olaf at 7 p.m.
